In the heart of Melbourne, Big Sur's Wunderball Surf Course is a great site to start your weekend: just two hours south of Melbourne, it offers up a variety of surfing-related activities, from wave-making contests to paddling, and it's perfect for relaxing with the kids - it's a great family friendly beach resort.
Another option for the inner city is the Big Sur Beach Boardwalk on the northern shores of the Sunshine Coast; which offers an amazing mix of surf break and boardwalk-related activities; including paddleboard park, boardwalk play area, boardwalk sand castle, the Big Sur Skatepark, and many more.
If your plans are anything like ours, try going for a break on the Whittle Sands Boardwalk in Perth's North Shore, which we know you've probably used to try your hand at surf-related activities!
Other good options for you to hit the big break are Bairns Head Beach and Little Stony Island on the Big Sur Coast; where you'll enjoy a variety of life-threatening water hazards, including a large coral reef and even more great waves.

Rain boosts hopes of barossa growers
Dzireg, the barossa-tender, is still waiting for permission to begin her work, but hopes to have it done by February, despite reports that they had been banned in February.
"This project has been going on for four years but I've been hoping this will be ready for the end of the year," Dzireg said.
If the scheme is successful, it could be worth up to about $60,000 each for a year's worth of plants, she said.
"I would like to work on barossa seeds in Africa," Dzireg said. "It's my passion and I would like to learn the plant. I would like to go home with this project."
This could be the only place in the world to grow Barossa on a scale equivalent to the Australian and European barossa farms, which produce thousands of seeds a year.
It's believed they are among the largest commercially cultivated Barossa seeds, with the world-famous fruit containing an estimated 30 kilograms of pollen and 15 kilograms of seeds, compared to the 12 kilograms of seeds grown by the small-scale farmers and ranchers the fruit is often eaten by.
Last week Australia became the first country to declare an official ban on the sale of Barossa seeds.
"It's just a dream we have dreamed to try," the farmer said, "to sell seeds so we can grow and learn more about these amazing and unique animals".
